01Our commitment
We believe a good website is one that everyone can use. We build porifyx.com to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA, which is the standard most UK organisations work towards. We treat accessibility as part of how we design and build, not as something we check at the end.
02What you can expect
You should be able to:
- use every page with a keyboard alone, with a clear outline showing where you are;
- skip straight to the main content with the “Skip to content” link at the top of each page;
- zoom the page up to 200 percent without content being cut off or overlapping;
- read text comfortably, because text and buttons meet contrast requirements;
- use a screen reader such as NVDA, JAWS or VoiceOver, with clear headings, page landmarks and labelled form fields;
- get clear, specific error messages if something in a form needs fixing;
- browse without moving animations if your device is set to reduce motion;
- use the site on a phone, tablet or desktop computer.
03The chatbot
Our chatbot is built to work for everyone. It opens from a clearly labelled button, it can be used entirely with a keyboard, new messages are announced to screen readers, and you can close it with the Escape key.
If the chatbot does not work well for you, our contact form and online booking give you the same help, and a person will reply.
04What we know still needs work
We are honest about the areas that are not perfect yet:
- Project screenshots. The interface images on our portfolio pages are pictures of software, so their small text cannot be read by a screen reader. Each project page describes the same information in its written text.
- Live demos and external sites. Some project pages link to client websites and demos that we do not control, and they may not meet the same standard.
- Older documents. Any downloadable documents we publish in the future will be checked, but some third party documents may not be fully accessible.
We review the site regularly and fix problems as we find them.
05How we test
We check new pages with automated accessibility tools, by using them with a keyboard only, with a screen reader, and at high zoom levels on desktop and mobile. We also test the colours of every theme for contrast before they go live.
06Reasonable adjustments
We follow the spirit of the Equality Act 2010. If you need information from us in a different format, such as large print, a plain text email or a phone call instead of a video meeting, or if you need us to adjust how we work with you during a project, just let us know. We will always try to help.
07Tell us about a problem
If something on our website is hard to use, please contact us. It helps if you tell us the page, what you were trying to do, and the device, browser or assistive technology you were using. We aim to reply within five working days, and we will let you know what we are doing to fix it.
If you are not happy with our response, you can contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS) at equalityadvisoryservice.com.
Still have a question?
Write to us and a real person will reply within one working day.
