01What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file that a website stores on your computer or phone. Websites use them to remember things, such as the fact that you are halfway through filling in a form or that you have already answered the cookie banner. Some sites also use a similar feature called local storage. In this policy we call all of these “cookies” to keep things simple.
The rules for cookies in the UK come from the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) and UK GDPR. In short, a website may only set cookies that are not strictly necessary if you have agreed to them first. That is exactly how our site works.
02Your choices
When you first visit our site, a banner asks what you are happy with. You can:
- Accept all to allow analytics and chatbot memory as well as the essential cookies;
- Reject optional to keep only the cookies the site needs to work;
- Choose to switch each type on or off yourself.
Your choice is saved in your browser, so we do not ask again on every page. You can change it at any time.
Change your settings
or use the link at the bottom of any page.
You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. If you block essential cookies, forms and bookings on our site will stop working.
03Essential cookies
These cookies are needed for the website to work and stay secure, so they do not need your consent. They do not track you and they are never used for marketing.
| Name | What it does | How long |
|---|---|---|
porifyx_session | Keeps your session going as you move between pages, so forms and bookings work | Until you close the browser, or 2 hours |
XSRF-TOKEN | Protects our forms against a type of attack where another site tries to submit them on your behalf | Until you close the browser, or 2 hours |
porifyx-consent | Remembers the choices you made in the cookie banner (stored in your browser’s local storage) | Until you clear it |
__cf_bm and cf_clearance | Set by Cloudflare to tell people apart from bots and stop spam | Up to 30 minutes |
04Chatbot cookies
These are optional and only switch on if you allow functional cookies. They let our chatbot remember your conversation while you browse, so you do not have to start again on every page.
| Name | What it does | How long |
|---|---|---|
| Chat session ID | Links your messages together so the chat carries on where you left off | Up to 30 days |
| Chat preferences | Remembers whether you closed or minimised the chat, and your language | Up to 30 days |
If you say no, you can still use the chatbot. It simply forgets the conversation when you leave the page.
05Analytics cookies
These are optional and only switch on if you allow analytics cookies. They tell us which pages people find useful and where they get stuck, so we can improve the site. We ask Google to shorten IP addresses before storing them.
| Name | Set by | What it does | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
_ga | Google Analytics | Tells one visitor apart from another | 2 years |
_ga_ followed by an ID | Google Analytics | Remembers the current visit | 2 years |
You can read how Google uses this information at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
06Visits we count without cookies
To get a rough idea of how busy the site is, we also count page views and button clicks each day. This counting does not use cookies, does not store anything on your device and cannot be used to identify you. It is switched off completely if you reject analytics, or if your browser sends a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal.
07Other websites
Some of our project pages link to live demos or other websites. Those sites may use their own cookies, which are covered by their own policies. Nothing from them loads on our pages until you choose to open it.
08Changes and questions
If we add or remove a cookie, we will update this page and, where needed, ask for your consent again. For anything else about how we handle your information, see our privacy policy or get in touch.
